The fourth largest city of the country, it is located 300 km South East of Yangon and at the mouth of Thanlwin River. It is the capital and largest city of Mon State and the main trade center as well as seaport of South Eastern Myanmar. Population wise, there are a bout 400,000 people residing in the city.
Although this city is not popular as a tour attraction, the city has charms of its own! With rich histories, colonial building remains of world war two and its close proximity to the infamous Siam-Burma “Death Railway.” If you are a lover of off the beaten tracks, this is one good destination for you to visit!
